Polling continued till late night due to disturbance in EVM

Lok Sabha elections were held in 20 states on Thursday for the first phase of 2019. On Thursday from 7 am, people stood up in the polling booth. Let us know that, in many states EVM machine was also damaged during the voting, due to which voters faced many difficulties. One such case came from Andhra Pradesh. Due to the defect in EVM, polling continued for more than 300 polling stations till late night.

Let us tell you that the final time for voting in Andhra Pradesh was at 6 PM. Due to the long queues of the voters, they were allowed to vote. In this case, Chief Election Officer of the state Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said, “Even if it happens at midnight, even if you are in queue before 6 o’clock in the evening, you can cast your vote”. Up to 6 pm, record 74 per cent more voting has been registered for the 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Election Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Jain said that during the voting for 91 Lok Sabha seats spread across 18 states and two union territories, 15 incidents have been reported, in which six incidents are from Andhra Pradesh alone.

Along with this, Jain informed that five other incidents of damaging EVMs have come from Arunachal Pradesh, two from Manipur and one each from Bihar and West Bengal. He said, “We have received complaints and strict legal action will be taken against those involved in damaging EVMs”.
